How Jacquelyn Pearce Jewelry Came To Be
Share

(Picture of me with a sunflower bouquet that my company sent me for my 7th anniversary with them. I'm also wearing my evil eye necklace that I got from Santorini during my honeymoon✨ )
The truth is, I was burnt out. Between moving continents with my husband and cat, trying to adapt to my new home, and all the while trying to keep up with the company I worked for remotely - I needed a break. It was hard because I loved my company and they'll always have a piece of my heart, but I also had to face the facts about what I needed in the next phase of my life. So after leaving my job as a software developer, I needed some time to simply calm my mind. I turned to my long time hobby of jewelry making. I became obsessive about learning all sorts of jewelry making processes. Some might say I converted my obsession with learning how to develop software into an obsession with how to make jewelry. I was especially drawn to the process of hand carving wax and learning about how each of my hand-carved pieces could be cast into my choice of metal through the lost wax method. Suddenly the “hobby” had a whole new effect on me. It was super meditative and every new piece was a precious heirloom that I wanted to share with others. That’s the energy that’s now instilled into every jewelry piece that I release, each one meant to commemorate a point in time.
(One of the first pieces I carved that included a gemstone - a beautiful white topaz)
If you ask anybody who knows me personally, they'll tell you jewelry has never been just jewelry to me. Not only do I make jewelry, but I'm also an avid collector. Whether it was picking out that diamond & sapphire evil eye necklace during my honeymoon, or ordering a custom gold map pendant just after my Grandma’s passing, jewelry marks special moments and people in my life so that I can keep them close to my heart. When I put on that evil eye necklace and look in the mirror, I’m reminded of the exploring I did with my husband on Santorini. I could almost feel the wind that blew through my hair while we looked off one of the cliffs during a hike we did on that iconic Greek island. Or when I put on that gold map pendant, I think back fondly at my childhood summers when my Grandma would take me to the neighborhood wading pool so I could happily splash away those hot summer afternoons.
(The Reunite Signet Ring - inspired by thinking of my friends and family back home, and when I will reunite with them once again)
My obsession with jewelry has only grown. Even during my "downtime", I obsessively source gemstones, research their meaning and properties, and where they come from. I also love learning more about new jewelry techniques. Both of these aspects of jewelry crafting continue to give me a greater appreciation for handmade jewelry and all the love that goes into it. I'm so thankful that I now get to use my hands to create wearable art with so much meaning for my clients. Let me know if you'd like to work on something together! And I'd also love to hear about what special pieces you own and what they signify for you. Let me know in the comments :)
