Let's get right to the point, I've been gone for a while. What I planned to be about 4 months of maternity leave turned into 8 months so fast I didn't even have time to think about it. No matter how many times you may have heard it from those that have come before you, parenthood throws crazy surprises (mostly emotionally and mentally) at you daily. Add being an expat mom with no family or solid network around us...really it just all became a blur. Initially I thought I could balance working whenever the baby didn't need me, but of course it wasn't that simple.
Don't get me wrong, having had the luxury of focusing on my son and family the past year has been amazing. But now it's time for me to fill my own cup again and that includes working on jewelry again. It'll probably be a rocky start but I hope you'll bare with me as I work it out.
Honestly I'm not even really sure where to start at this point. Despite being away, it didn't stop me from listening to jewelry podcasts while I took walks with my little one or watching other jewellers work their magic at the bench on YouTube as I fell asleep at night. So there really is a lot of jewelry related things brewing in my mind, but right now it's all a little disorganized, not to mention often trumped by whatever I'm working on as a mom.
A few things I do know is I would like to share more of my inspiration, some new designs I'm playing with, and of course, more wax carving at the bench. I'd also love to bring the ethos behind Jacquelyn Pearce Jewelry more to forefront because it's such a big part of how the pieces are made and why. So here's hoping I can strike some kind of balance between caring for my little family and working on jewelry.
And finally a shoutout to small business week in Canada. I might be a Canadian expat right now but I still love to support Canadian businesses whenever I can so please share any you think I should check out!
Thinking about making a birthstone studs series based off this design.
